A personal investment and advisory firm devoted to patient capital and lasting impact.
Built with patience, grounded in principle, and committed to permanence.
I'm Chase Murdock.
I run Decada Group, a holding company that owns and stewards five Salt Lake City businesses for the long haul. Patina is my own firm — where I put minority capital behind operators I believe in and serve as counsel to CEOs.
I care about judgment over noise, ownership over optics, and building things that still matter in ten years.
More about me →Patina’s Focus
I partner with businesses I don’t run.
My firm Decada Group owns and operates. Patina does the opposite. I take a position outside of control — sometimes Capital, sometimes Counsel, sometimes Partnership in the work itself — and stay tied to how it turns out. Done right, it shows up as sharper decisions, a steadier team, and a CEO who isn’t carrying it alone.
CEO Counsel
A thinking partner for the person carrying the weight alone. Judgment, not enthusiasm. For leaders who have plenty of advisors and no one to think with.
The Practice
Advisory takes two forms — CEO Counsel and Partnership. Capital is minority investment. Each holds the same posture: aligned to the outcome, and in it for longer than a consultant would be.
Partnership
A business can raise capital anywhere. I invest something rarer: time, judgment, and a real stake in the outcome — as an investor, a board member, or a partner in the work itself.
Capital
Minority investment where the fit is right. Patient money, no clock, no pressure to exit. I back operating businesses where leadership, culture, and continuity decide the outcome.
Essays
I write to think.
Most of what I know I learned in the seat — fifteen years as a founder, CEO, and acquirer, then as an investor and counsel to other CEOs. I write to crystallize the takeaways: principles and patterns that hold up across contexts and stakes.
